Overview
Thomas, son of William Edmiston (3) and Agnes Holmes, was born about 1753, and came to Southwest Virginia with his parents c1770. Here he married Margaret Buchanan, daughter of Robert and Mary Buchanan. In 1780 he was numbered among the members of the Donnelson Flotilla which made its way by flatboat to the Cumberland Settlement near Nashville. Thomas was a signatory (as Thomas Edmeston) to the Cumberland Compact, and lived out his life in Davidson County. [2]

- Will of Thomas Edmundson recorded November 27, 1824 in Davidson County Court WB 8. Page 365. In the Will Thomas names son Samuel; son John Black; wife Martha; daughter Elizabeth,; daughter Martha; daughter Esther; daughter Louisa; mentions lawsuit in Circuit Court of Bedford County over land in Lincoln County, TN; mentions grandsons Hugh McClung and Obediah, sons of William Edmundson. Son Samuel and friend William Black named as executors. September 17, 1821.

- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Thomas Edmundson was one of the early settlers of David County. He signed the "Articles of Agreement or Compact of Covernment, Entered into by the Settlers on the Cumberland River, 1st May 1780." He settled in the Mill Creek area in the southern part of Davidson County. He had land also in Washington County, VA which he did not sell until 1797.

Howard V. Jones, fide "Dogwoods to Bluebonnets", describes it this way: In re: Thomas. As usual, there is room for massive confusion about the Thomases: three of them (also as usual).

- [ Person:Thomas Edmondson (2): ] The second was Thomas, s/o of William Sr., who m. Martha Buchanan, d/o a different Robert & Mary. He was one of the first settlers of Nashville, coming there in 1780 with Donelson. He lived out his life in Davidson Co. TN.
- [ Person:Thomas Edmondson (9): ] The third is Thomas, s/o Capt. William Edmiston. He's younger, moved to Nashville with his mother, married Agatha Perkins (money, money, money!) and lived out his life in Nashville.
