Notes
- From "Blake & Fleshman Families of West Virginia:
- A Blake Family DNA project conducted by researchers, has shown the descendants of our Theophilus Blake are not related to New Hampshire Blake family group. Consequently, this development has raised many questions among researchers as to the true origins of Theophilus. Many researchers now think he may have immigrated from Ireland or Scotland, landing in the port of Philadelphia.
- About 1764, Theophilus Blake moved his family from Pennsylvania to Augusta County, Virginia. His son, Thomas, was living near Cass in modern-day Pocahontas County, West Virginia.

- Current Research has discovered that Theophilus Blake and his family were still in Pennsylvania until at least Feb 13, 1769 on land in what was then Paxton Twp, Lancaster County, (now Dauphin County)Pennsylvania. This land is located in between the Blue and Second mountains, just north of Harrisburg and a few miles east of the Susquehanna River on Fishing Creek.
According to Warrant Application for "Blooming Grove" - 300 acres at Fishing Creek in Paxton Twp., Lancaster (now Dauphin) County, Pennsylvania dated 21 May 1766
21 May 1767 - Application No. 1508 for "Blooming Grove at Fishing Creek to be surveyed - the survey showed there was actually 162 acres plus allowance of six percent for roads &etc.
Feb 13 1769 - Theophilus transferred Deed to "Blooming Grove" to Benjamin Wallace, Surveyor & his wife Rebecca
This would have been when Theophilus Blake and his family would have left for what was then Augusta County (now Bath County), Virginia.
There is a large Warrant Map on the wall in the Pennsylvania State Library in Harrisburg that has this land parcel on it in the name Theophilus Bleak - 114 B-1-218 Theophilus Bleak, Appl. 1502 Dated May 21, 1766 162 as & All. Sur. Mar. 3, 1768, Pat. May 12, 1796 to John Ryan on War. to accept Apr. 21, 1796 P-28-166 "Blooming Grove".
