Personal History

Sophia Aufrere, daughter of George Aufrere^[1] and Arabella, was born about 1752. She died on 25 January 1786 in her 34th year, and she was buried 2 February in the parish of Brocklesby, Lincolnshire, England.^[1] After her death, Charles had a mausoleum built in her memory to hold her remains.

On 21 July 1770, in the parish of St Luke, Chelsea, Middlesex, England, Charles Anderson Pelham of Brocklesby, Lincolnshire, and Sophia Aufrere of the parish of St Luke were married by special licence by the minister Philip Duval, in the presence of [her parents] George Aufrere and Arabella Aufrere.

   “Sophia, Wife of Cha^s. Anderson Pelham Esq^re. & Dau^r. of Geo: Aufrere Esq^re. of Chelsea in the County of Middlesex, died on the 25^th. day of Jan^y. [1786] & was buried on the 2^nd. day of Feb^y. in the 34^th. Year of her Age.”

2. ↑ Sophia died before her husband was created a baron in 1794, and therefore she was never styled as a baron's wife.
