Personal History

Sophia Aufrere, daughter of George Aufrere[1] and Arabella, was born about 1752. She died on 25 January 1786 in her 34th year, and she was buried 2 February in the parish of Brocklesby, Lincolnshire, England.[1] After her death, Charles had a mausoleum built in her memory to hold her remains.

On 21 July 1770, in the parish of St Luke, Chelsea, Middlesex, England, Charles Anderson Pelham of Brocklesby, Lincolnshire, and Sophia Aufrere of the parish of St Luke were married by special licence by the minister Philip Duval, in the presence of [her parents] George Aufrere and Arabella Aufrere.

    “Sophia, Wife of Chas. Anderson Pelham Esqre. & Daur. of Geo: Aufrere Esqre. of Chelsea in the County of Middlesex, died on the 25th. day of Jany. [1786] & was buried on the 2nd. day of Feby. in the 34th. Year of her Age.”
