Personal History

Charles Anderson Pelham,[2][4] son of Charles Anderson Pelham and Sophia[2] (Aufrere), was born on 8 August 1781, and he was baptized on 12 August in the parish of Brocklesby, Lincolnshire, England.[2]

In 1803,[5] Charles became lieutenant-colonel in the 2nd Regiment, North Lincolnshire Legion, and his father became lieutenant-colonel-commandant of the same legion.

Upon the death of his father on 22 September 1823, Charles succeeded as Baron Yarborough (2nd, created 1794), in Great Britain.

In 1831,[6] Charles became lieutenant-colonel in the North Lincoln Regiment of Yeomanry Cavalry, and his son became captain of the same regiment.

On 21 January 1837,[7] King William IV granted to Charles and the heirs-male of his body the dignities of a Baron and Earl in the peerage of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and Charles was created Baron Worsley of Apuldurcombe, in the isle of Wight, and Earl of Yarborough.

Later the same year, the Earl of Yarborough served as one of sixteen peers to be assistants to the chief mourner at the funeral of King William IV.[8]
