If you look at the Document signed at the very bottom on a Land Reco rd of William Fugate next to John Parrott there is a signature with a STEP HEN SMITH signed at the very bottom. STEPHEN may have been his first na me indicating ties to the STEPHENS.

INTERESTING FACT: One of those "SAME "STEPHEN LINES" of PETER STEPHEN "MA RRIED" into the JESSE HONAKER II FUGATE which married into the TIPTONS. T he TIPSONS of the same location that William Fugate & Sarah Jane Stevens p urchased land in Tazewell, TN, Claiborne County are found married into t he FUGATES of that same area.

• Also Note that PETER STEPHENS b. 1732 Frederick Co., VA d. 1812 had a s on named Lawrence Stephens b. 1755 had a daughter named SARAH JANE STEPHE NS he could of named that child after his sister or aunt - which could ha ve been our Sarah Jane Stevens (Stephens).

STEVENS - SANDY RIDGE, Russell Co., VIRGINIA The SAME SET OF STEVENS AKA STEPHENS are also found in a place called San dy Ridge, Russell Co., VA I have PROVEN those same Stevens aka Stephens a re of the SAME lines of the STEPHENS from SWITZERLAND that migrated to GER MANY to VIRGINIA. *This line spelled it as Stevens aka Stephens.

The STEVENS (Stephens) Families are found in a place called SANDY RIDGE, R USSELL COUNTY, VIRGINIA. The Stevens Cemetery is located on Rt. 621 on t op of Sandy Ridge in Russell County near the home of Mr. Elden Stevens. Th is Cemetery is beautiful and well taken care of by Elden. The Stevens/Ste phens name can be found spelled either of the two ways.

THE FUGATES The Fugates of Virginia are directly tied to the Fugates in Tazewell Tenne ssee, located in Eastern Tennessee the county seat of Claiborne near the C umberland Gap National Park. CLAIBORNE COUNTY TENNESSEE is bordered by bo th the state of Kentucky and the state of Virginia, Lee County. Tazewe ll is the County the (3rd) third largest City in Tennessee. Lee Co, VA a nd Scott, VA, and Hancock and, a portion of Claiborne County in Tenness ee headquarters at Tazewell, Claiborne County.

In the BICENTENNIAL HISTORY OF LEE COUNTY, VIRGINIA 1792-1992 hardback bo ok published on page 431 - There is an Article on some of the STEPHENS-STE VENS of Lee County, Virginia. There was a Richard Stephens living in L ee Co.,VA with eight children in 1861. Richard was in the Civil War. Th ey were in Lee's Army on May 2, 1864. He left Virginia to Kentucky whe re the Army had already passed through. They came to Elgin, Kentucky in P ulaski Co., lived in a log cabin. Another Stevens listed in the book w as Henry Stevens from Barbourville, KY in the 1880s-90's. Some moved to B rodhead KY. One married a Latt Clark of the children. There might be a c onnection to some of these Stevens/Stephens to our Sarah Stevens-Fugate po ssibly. It states in the book that the FAMILY of HENRY & sp. VIRGINIA ST EVENS "Originated near Barbourville, Kentucky in the 1880's & 1890's". Hw y. 24 borders where they owned land. They moved to LEE CO., VA in the Ear ly 1900's when the Coal Mines began to open. Some of them lived in Penni ngton Gap. Some moved to Kingsport, TN. All of this Generation have pass ed on and their remaining children reside in KY & TN. It states that An na Mae Stevens-Martin of Rt. 3, Box 48, Pennington Gap, VA 24277, (276) 54 6-2651 is the only remaining STEVENS in LEE COUNTY, VIRGINIA living near D ryden. She wrote the Article on page 431-432 on this family printed givi ng her address & phone number as the Submitter to the "Bicentennial Histo ry of Lee County, Virginia 1792-1992" book published.
