Lydia Love wrote her sister Jane Love: "As you see I am a way from home / I cam hear 2 weeks a go / got your letter the day I left Moran / all were well when I left / I wanted to see the man that Married our mothers sister / I have had a good visit / Evan [Newlan] met me / I have seen all of them but one Caroline Massey / She has lost her mind and gone to the asylum / they Buried one of the children to day a little girl / I was there when She died / Massey is nearly crazy / they also have a Baby with a Big head / they have 5 children left / Evan have 6 / Lottie 3 / Levi none / John has 2 / I am at Johns / came yesterdy / dont know how long I will stay / his wife is not Stout / the little one is 4 weeks old / I like his wife Splendid / Uncle is maried / I have a good time when I go there / he seen you be fore you went [to] canada / Johnie says he had a good time when he visited you / the newlans all live around hear / it a bout 40 miles from Bobs / John talks of gowig to Bobs this fall / he is a renter but is doing well / I wish you could see Uncle Joe Newlan / he dident know Uncle Joels Picture / hadent seen him for 40 years . . . Lydia Love wrote her sister Jane: "I am still among the Newlans 15 miles from Post office / I was at Johns when I last wrote / I was there ___ weeks but I will half to tell you the Bad news of his death / he died may the 2 with the measles / I was with him to the last / his Father took it so hard / So did Levi / he had a good Wife / dont know yet what she will do / it is hard to Part with those wee love / I am now at uncle Joes . . . I saw Evan Newlan and family yesterday / I havent been to see Lotta yet but am going / Evan Levi John Caroline Lotta were the Newlan children but alas John is not one of the number / he [their father Joseph] was my favorite uncle / maried again and have 3 children / one maried / I have had a real good time but Evan is so selfish / he wants me to stay there all the time and all they have got are children / they have a bout 140 little chickens / a Prittie Place / John was on a rented Place but all are doing Better than Evan . . . Uncle says he would like to see you / says you were small when he [saw] you / it was before wee went to canada / he is past 70 / his wife [Sarah Ann Jones Newlan] was younger [than our] mother / died 28 years ago / John was 2 and a Boy Baby younger"

I would love to have any obits, funeral records or other hard documentation I could find. There is a dispute as to Joseph's wife's name (Caroline's mother) maiden name and I am trying to pin it down. Her first name is SARAH Newlan. I do not know if she too is buried at Gridley or not.
