 Ward Eldred died at his home west of the Katy tracks Saturday evening immediately after eating his supper, falling over dead in his chair.  He had been in his usual health up to that time and his death was without warning.  He was past 70 years old and had been a resident of Burlington for a number of years.  The funeral was held this morning at 9 o'clock at the home in charge of Rev. Geo. E. Tifft of the Methodist church.  The interment was in the Wharton cemetery on Big creek.
 Ward Eldridge [sic] was born in Illinois in 1838, and was married to Miss --- Newland 41 years ago; to which union eight children were born of which four are living.  Mr. Eldridge has lived in Kansas since 1872.  Mesdames South, Cline and Whistler, furnished beautiful flowers for the casket, at the funeral.

Died Suddenly

 Ward Eldred died suddenly last Saturday evening of heart disease at his home on west St. Lawrence, south and west of the Katy depot.  He had just finished eating supper, when with a cry he placed his hands to his heart and fell to the floor dead.  The funeral services were conducted at the home this morning at 9 o'clock by the Rev. Geo. E. Tifft of the M. E. church, and the interment was made in a cemetery near Gridley.
 The deceased was born in Illinois in 1838.  He was married to a Miss Newland 41 years ago, and to this union eight children were born, four of whom are living.  He had lived in Kansas since 1872.

 Mrs. Eldred died Sunday night at her home in South Burlington.  The funeral Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock at the home, with interment in Wharton cemetery near Gridley.

Obituary of Mrs. Eldred

 Charlotte Newlan was born January 23, 1847 at Lovington, Ill.  She was married to Ward Eldred at the age of 23 years and to this union were born eight children, 4 of whom are living.  She moved to Coffey county about 45 years ago and this has been her home ever since.  When a young woman she was converted and died in the faith, November 7, 1910.  Her husband died about two years ago.  Mrs. Eldred's funeral was held Tuesday morning from the home with services in charge of L. M. Wiles, minister of the Christian church, and the body was laid to rest in the Fair Hope cemetery in Liberty township.  Rev. A. W. Way of the Gridley Methodist church made a brief address at the grave.  Mrs. Eldred's death is sincerely mourned by her many friends.
