Newlan, 8-19-1861 to no date ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Message: My grandfather's sister married a L. J. or Levi Newlan. Her name was Alice McCartney and they lived in or near Gridley Kansas. I found a L J and Alie Newlan in the 1900 Kansas Census. In 1927 in my grandfather's obituary Alice was listed as surviving sister and a nephew Ray Newlan of Westphalia, Kansas was shown as a pallbearer. Alice was the daughter of Joseph B. McCartney who was born in Ohio. Alice was born in Indiana but at this point I do not know if her mother was Rosetta or Phoebe. --Carol Lei <clei@@gte.net>, Aug. 11, 2001, Chester Co., SC, Message Board <http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/localities.northam.usa.states.southcarolina.counties.chester/320.1341.1>
