Advisory on Parentage of Samuel Todd
Some sources claim that this Samuel Todd was a son of a Samuel Todd and Ann Houston. This is factually incorrect, based upon "family tradition" and probably incorrectly identified as sons of Samuel Todd by family historians in the 1930s. This Samuel Todd has been proven to be a son of William Todd, based upon several records in Augusta & Botetourt County, Virginia and later records in Clay & Jefferson County, Kentucky. - Page 387.--12th January, 1763. John Law to Samuel Tod, bill of sale of horse to secure payment to James Davice of £8.8. Teste: John Lowrey.
- Vol. 1 - AUGUST 19, 1767. - (220) Sarah Young, aged 16, and James Young, aged 15, orphans of Patrick Young, chose Saml. Todd guardian, and same was appointed guardian of Jennet and Elce Young, orphans of Patrick.
- Page 34.--19th August, 1767. Samuel Todd's bond (with Robert Young, Jno. Lowry) as guardian to Sarah, James, Jannet and Elizabeth Young, orphans of Patrick Young.
- Vol. 1 - MARCH 15, 1768. - (498) Samuel Todd has a writ ad quod damnum before building a water mill on his land on Whistle Creek.

- Vol. 2 - Page ___-- Samuel Todd, son of William Todd, deposes, in Botetourt, 14th July, 1801. In 1754-1755, or 1756, Tobias Burk came to deponent's father's house. Burk had married one of Borden's sisters. Wm. bought from Benj., Jr. (Note: this clearly establishes Samuel Todd as the son of William Todd, who settled in the Borden Tract).
