Court of 21 Feb 1822;
On motion of Elizabeth McCorkle, the adminstration of the estate of Samuel McCorkle, desceased, is granted to her and she entered into a bond for $2,00.00.


Court order book, Greenbrier County, Virginia.
Sep. Court 1830. John Argabright was appointed guardian to Samuel McCorkle age 16, minor and orphan to Samuel McCorkle desceased. Entered into bond of $600.00 with William Feamster and John Butler as securities. This happen just after Elizabeth died in 1830.


Records

1830 census, Greenbrier county, shows a Elizabeth McCorkle with four people living with her. One boy and one girl 16-18, one boy 18-26.

Notes Tax list book of Greenbrier County, Virginia . Samuel McCorkle was not listed in 1796. Tax List of 1777 shows 1 tithable and two horse. 1805 1 tithable 5 horses living on the Greenbrier River and 1815 shows 1 tithable , 9 horse, and 25 cows. 1820 Greenbrier County census shows a Samuel McCorkle with eight people living with him. 1 boy &1 girl under 10 years, 2 boys 10 -16 years, 1 boy and 1 girl 18-26 years, I female 26-45 and one male over 45 years of age. Also called for jury duty twice in 1820.

Sale bill of Samuel McCorkle estate in 1822 names Elizabeth McCorkle widow and other people mentioned are William, Slyers, Charles and James.

No McCorkles were listed in the 1850 census of Greenbrier County.
In the Greenbrier court June term 1822 an appraisment bill was made of Samuel McCorkle personal goods. On page 590, 591 & 592 will book Greenbrier County, Va. It listed the following on 2 Apr 1822 62 steer, cows, and calves, 9 horses, 53 hogs & sows, 14 sheep, 28 heads of geese, 4 ducks, plus other personal property such as farm equipment, tools, and house goods. Total value app. $1,500. Signed by Thomas Feamster, John Feamster, and Edward McClung.

Other persons buying that day included John Conner, Henry Hedricks, Thomas Benet, William Caraway, Thomas Kelly, Edward McCling, Samuel Keenar, Lewis Hickman, Matthew Kincaid, William Feamster, & John Feamster. Total sale price $1,200.00.
Land book of Greenbrier County, Virginia did not show any McCorkle from 1783 until 1802 when it showed a Samuel McCorkle of Paterson with 260 acres. In 1814 Sam McCorkle had 248 acres and 150 acres on Second Creek. In 1816 he was in James Hanna and Robert Stephen tax district and showed 248 acres on Muddy Creek, 105 acres on Mill Creek, and 30 acres on Mill Creek. In 1818 he purchased another 185 acres on Muddy Creek. The total value for tax purposes of the four pieces of land was $294.50. Everything remained the same except the tax district was made the lower district under Robert Stephen. In 1823 all the property was listed as the estate of Samuel McCorkle.

According to deed book 4 page 524 Greenbrier County, Virginia Samuel purchased from John Conner on 24 Dec 1811 on the waters of Muddy Creek 260 acres.

On 26 July 1833 Elizabeth sold all the land to Charles Rogers making her mark "X".

29 oct 1807 248 acres from Jeremiah Osborn & wife. Muddy Creek. Five shilling Mill Creek branch of Muddy Creek. Bk. 4 page 7.
27 Aug 1812 105 acres from James Buttar. Muddy Creek.
24 Nov 1812 30 acres from John Casdway. Muddy Creek.
Book 7 page 191 185 acres from Jacob Smith.
All the land was sold in different sales by 1833 to a John Piercy and Joseph Jarrett.
Could have had a sister Barzillar McCorkle and a brother Robert McCorkle as Barzillar married David McWhortor in Bath county 2 years after Samuel and Robert McCorkle was Barzillar surety.
