Notes

Samuel (d. 1819) was the son of Samuel of Augusta Co. as evidenced by a 1785 deed where Samuel and Margaret of Greenbrier Co. sell land in Augusta Co. which he received as the son and heir of Samuel Kincaid Sr. Samuel Sr. was in Augusta Co. prior to 1746 when he appears as a tithe on a road from N Mt to. Wm King's house (the edge of Beverley Manor).
Also on this road crew was James Clark, the father of Margaret. Elizabeth Clark, widow of James, made her will in 1781. She lists: dau. Jean Elliot's heirs, dau. Sarah Elliot, dau. Ann Dunlap, dau. Margaret Clenkaid, son John, son James, son Alex, son Sam, son Wm's heirs, son Robert.

From Rootsweb.com post:

sort out the Samuels of Greenbrier:

3. Samuel Kincaid who md. Margaret Clark. He died on Anthony Creek, Greenbrier Co., in 1819 and left a will naming (among others) his son Samuel Jr. .....4. Samuel Jr., son of the above Samuel. He lived on Anthony Creek and made a late marriage to Sarah "Sallie" Keisler in Greenbrier in 1827 and died in that county in 1853. When he was born is a question, for his 18 census says abt. 1777, his death record says 1781, and his earlier census says 1770s. Beats me. He could have been old enough to father Toney's ancestor Thomas, but only if he had a slightly earlier birth than his later records suggest and a first marriage for which no record has survived.
