Acquisition of Land in Augusta County, VA

As shown below in the survey records of "Hume's Survey Book", Samuel Davidson had acquired land in "Beverley Manor" and received a grant from William Beverley prior to the establishment of Augusta County. Since this area was then in Orange County (the predecessor county of Augusta), the deed records probably exist there. Although there is no record of Samuel Davidson selling this property in Augusta County records, there is one entry listed below in 1748 that may indicate that he had sold this land to John Pickens prior to that date.

Page 343.--13th August, 1747. Wm. Beverley to Edward Hall, £10 current money Virginia; 220 acres in Beverley Manor on South Fork of Shanandore; corner to Samuel Davison's land on the river; on Col. Patton's line; the patent line. Teste: James Crawford, John Mitchell, John Linn. Proved by all as above.

1748, June 23d--John Pickins, 400 acres, south side South River, near land he bought from Samuel Davison, and 400 acres near the land he bought from Dotley (?) on South River. (Note: although no records of this Samuel Davidson selling his land in Beverley Manor has been located, it may indicate that Samuel had re-located possibly to South Carolina by this time, more research necessary).

SEPTEMBER 21, 1763. - (238) Saml. Davidson, a witness from Albemarle. (Note: not sure this is the same Samuel Davidson, but possibly a clue to his migration if it was).

Born: ABT 1705 in ____, Ulster, Ireland, UK1 Died: AFT 1765 in ____, ____, SC BET 1738 AND 1765 in Beverly Manor, Augusta Co., VA2 in ____, Tryon or Rowan Co., NC in ____, York Co., SC Notes: I have no proof that Samuel is a brother of George and John; however, he lived near John in Beverly Manor and two of his children were close with John's children. (Note: Samuel could be perhaps a cousin of George and John Davidson, possibly a son of William Davidson's brother John, but more research is necessary to prove any relationship). _____

SAMUEL and JOHN DAVISON, both acquired land in Beverley Manor, Orange (Augusta in 1745) County, VA on the same date in 1739. Both had children baptized at Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church in the 1740's.

5 June 1739 Pgs. 237-242. Wm Beverley of Essex Co., Gent. to John Davison of Augusta Co. lease and release for 23 pd. 11 sh. current money, 785A, part of Manner of Beverley, at Christie's white oak. (Actually, John Christian's).

GEORGE and SAMUEL went in the 1760's as some records show, to Tryon Co., NC which became part of Mecklenburg and Lincoln Cos., NC and Camden Dist., SC. There was an ongoing border dispute between NC and SC and when it was settled, SAMUEL fell into York Co., Camden Dist., SC. Deeds to his land were recorded in Mecklenburg Co., NC and in York Co., SC. (Some abstracts listed below). SAMUEL'S home was only a few miles from King's Mtn. where an important victory over the British was fought. Sons, WILLIAM, JAMES, and BENJAMIN participated and were given Revolutionary grants in Western NC where they settled. SAMUEL remained in York Co. where he died in 1787.
