Obituary ROWELL A. MCHATTEN SR. CASTLE HILL - Rowell A. McHatte Sr., died June 25, 2003 at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou after a long illness. He was born Dec. 3, 1917, the son of Herbert and Asenath (Littlefield) McHatten. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received the Purple Heart and was a lifetime member of the Ashland VFW. Rowell worked in civil service at Loring AFB, retiring in 1972. He was known as the "Woodman" of Castle Hill. He is survived by a son, Rowell "Rocky" McHatten Jr and his wife, Sandra, of Meriden, Conn; a granddaughter Roxanne McHatten-Gura and her husband, Jason; three step-grandchildren, Sandra Russak, Kim Philips and Stacey Boynton; a brother, Robert McHatten of Castle Hill; two sisters, Margaret Salvatore of Southington, Conn., and Maude Allodi of Sarasota, Fla., several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy L. (Chalifoux) McHatten; two sons, Steven Craig and a baby boy McHatten; two brothers, Herman McHatten and Stanley McHatten; a sister, Eliza Watt. Relatives and friends may call 9:30-10:15 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Castle Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Levquin officiating, followed by a military committal. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Rowell to a charity of one`s choice.
