Robert MASTERTON (family letters) was born 29 dec1829 in Larbert (vital records). Larbert census 1841 and 1851 records a Robert MASTERTON born about 1828, in 1871 he lived at Blythswood, Lanarkshire and in 1881 at 20 Merchiston Ave., Edinburgh, retired (G. Masterton). Robert married at Blythswood, Lanarkshire, 8mar1863 (G. M.,, scotlandspeople) Hannah MCLEAN (family letters); in his children’s birth registrations he is named Robert Knox Masterton. Robert died 13apr1882 at Newington, Midlothian (G. Masterton). Scottish Archives have a record of Robert Knox Masterton, 20 Merchiston Avenue, Edinburgh, d. 13/04/1882 at Edinburgh, intestate and Hannah Masterton or M'Lean, 20 Merchiston Avenue, Edinburgh, widow of Robert Knox Masterton, Merchant, Glasgow, d. 29/12/1884 at Edinburgh, testate. According to “Register of the Society of Writers to her Majesty’s Signet” (Edinburgh 1983), entry on G. D. Ballingall, Robert was a merchant at Hamilton, Canada; his 1st daughter was apparently born there (1891 census). Hannah was born before 3apr1831 at Glasgow, daughter of John MACLEAN and Ann NIVEN; she lived 1871 at Blythswood, 1881 at Morningside Asylum, Midlothian, and died 29dec1884 at Newington (G. Masterton).
