HORSFALL, Robert Bruce, born 21 Oct 1868 in Clinton; son of John Tomlin and Anne Battersby Horsfall; md Carra Elisabeth Hunting 27 May 1906; son Robert Bruce; died 24 Mar 1948. Artist and writer.
Robert Bruce Horsfall lived on Elm Street (now 4th Avenue North) near the river. Local acquaintances say he was little, shy, had a squeaky voice, and was very hard to know. His father was the town rag-picker, and Bruce often wore a secondhand overcoat several sizes too big. Local people financed his schooling in Cincinnati, and he won a scholarship for European study. While in Munich he painted “Evening Hour”, which was displayed at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago, 1893
