According to a Frobose researcher, Phillip and Elizabeth had 8 children: Christina E. 1895 - 1908; Elsie Ruth 1897; Allie May 1899 - 1987; Henrietta 1901-1982 m. Hertwig; Phyllis Catherine 1904 - 2000, m. Edwin Harrison; Ethel Elouise 1906 - 1993; Mabel Genevieve 1908 - 1994; Dorothy Louise 1912 - 1968; and Lydia 1914-1914. In the 1900 Census, New Jersey, Essex Co., Franklin Township (later Nutley), Philip Frobose is 26, born Oct 1873 in New Jersey, married 5 years, parents born Germany,'coachman'. In his household are his wife Elizabeth, 23 born Apr. 1877 in New Jersey (parents Ireland), 23, 3 of 3 children living; and their children Christina E., age 4, Dec 1895; Elsie R., age 2, Oct 1897; Allie, age 6/12 (months), Nov 1899 -- all born New Jersey. James Russell 23 from New Jersey, 'hack driver' is a boarder. {ed 194, sh 11} In the 1910 census for Nutley, Essex Co., New Jersey, Philip 'Froboss' is 36, born New Jersey(?) (parents Germany), married 15 years, driver for a department store. His wife (Laise?) is 32, born New Jersey (parents Ireland), with 6 of 7 children living. The children are Elsie, 12; Alice, 10; Henrietta, 8; Phyllis, 5; (?) [Ethel?], 2; and (Jennie?)[Mabel?], 2. {3rd ward, p. 250, #267/105/114} In 1920 census, Philip is probably the "Philip Provost" listed with his sister Fredericka and Jacob Fitting II in Nutley, where he is described as brother-in-law, age 46, marital status "sep"; working as a motorman for RR co. His wife is living with their children, listed as divorced. In 1930, there is a Phillip Frobose living with Edwin and Phyllis C. Harrison as 'father-in-law'. Phillip is 57, married, married first at 21, and working as a shipping clerk in supply office. He was born in New Jersey, parents born in Germany. Edwin is a salesman for office supplies and they have two sons: Richard, 4, and Wallace, 2. {Nutley, Essex Co., NJ 3rd Ward, ed 7-568, sh 2b} According to email communication, Philip moved to Cincinnati circa 1937. According to email communication from a Frobose descendant, in his obituary (undated), he left daughters: Mrs. Marcus Miller [Allie] in Newark, NJ; Mrs. Malcolm Thorn [Elsie] and Mrs. Kenneth Williamson [Dorothy] of East Orange; Mrs. Edward Troast [Mabel] of Newark; Mrs. Martin Coffey [Ethel] of Bloomfield; Mrs. Herman Hertwig [Henrietta] of West Orange; and Mrs. Edward Harrison [Phyllis] of Nutley. Two of his sisters also survived him: Mrs. George Fitting [Mary] and Mrs. Arthur Speer [Kate] both of Nutley. He was active in organizing drum and bugle corps in Nutley and Newark. |
