Patty Street was baptised on 18th December 1814 at Hinxworth in Hertfordshire, daughter of Mary Street, formerly Millard, and her husband William Street, a labourer. Patty was the youngest of their eight children.
In March 1820, when Patty was only five years old, her father died.
On 19th December 1835, aged 21, Patty married a blacksmith called Thomas Bryant at Hinxworth. They went on to have eleven children between 1836 and 1856, with the youngest two children being twins. Ten of the eleven children were girls. One daughter died as a baby in 1854, as did one of the twins when just a couple of weeks old in 1856.
Patty’s mother died in 1846.
Each census from 1841 to 1871 finds Patty and Thomas living in Hinxworth village. They were generally listed as living on the High Street.
Patty’s eldest daughter, Ann, married in 1857, but she died the following year, aged 22. Patty’s second daughter, Mary, married in 1859 and later moved to London with her husband; they did not have any children. In 1865 Patty’s daughter Betsy died aged 20.
Patty’s other six children who had lived to adulthood all married and had children. Patty’s first known grandchild was born in 1864. She appears to have had 24 grandchildren born in her lifetime, although some of them died young.
Thomas died in November 1879, aged 67. Patty survived him by just over a year. She died at the age of 66 and was buried at Hinxworth on 22nd January 1881.
