Confusingly, there were five Betsy / Elizabeth Bryants baptised at Hinxworth in the 1840s. The other four besides the one the subject of this page are believed to be as follows:

    A. Elizabeth, baptised 3rd October 1841, daughter of John (blacksmith) & Elizabeth. Appears in 1851 census with parents on High Street. Likely to be the Elizabeth who married David Langham (banns read at Hinxworth October 1861) on basis of 1871 census in which Elizabeth wife of David Langham (living in Hinxworth village) gave her age as 30, implying born 1840/1.

    B. Betsy, baptised 28th September 1845, daughter of Edmund (blacksmith) & Elizabeth. Appears in 1851 and 1861 censuses with parents on New Inn Road / New Inn in Hinxworth parish. Likely to be the Elizabeth Bryant who married James Greenbrook in 1870 in the Bromley district of Kent, on basis of 1871 and 1881 censuses in which Elizabeth wife of James Greenbrook (living in Lewisham in 1871 and Mitcham in 1881) gave her place of birth as New Inn, Hertfordshire.

    C. Elizabeth baptised 15th March 1846, daughter of William (labourer) & Susan. Appears in 1851 census with parents at Bury End. Likely to be the Elizabeth who married William Morgan (banns read at Hinxworth April 1867) on basis of 1871 census in which Elizabeth and William Morgan were living at Bury End next door to William & Susan Bryant.

    D. Betsy Jane baptised 16th August 1846, daughter of John (labourer) & Susan. Appears in 1851 census with parents on High Street. By 1861 that family had moved to the neighbouring parish of Edworth, where Betsy Jane married John Knott on 9th May 1867, with her marriage record confirming her father's name as being John.

By a process of elimination, it would therefore appear that the Elizabeth Bryant buried at Hinxworth on 22nd June 1845 is most likely to be the Betsy daughter of Thomas and Patty, who has not otherwise been found in later records.
