Olive Grace Marshall was born in 1894 at Luton in Bedfordshire, daughter of a straw hat sewer named Phillis Jane Marshall, formerly Marlow, and her husband Joseph Marshall, a straw hat blocker. Olive appears in the 1901 census living with her parents and siblings at 47 Cromwell Road in Luton, next door to her maternal grandparents. Olive's father died in 1910, when Olive was fifteen years old. The 1911 census finds Olive living with her widowed mother and siblings at 46 Vernon Road in Luton. She has yet to be researched after 1911.
