Nathan's father willed him 200 acres of sand in South Carolina, “Second: I give and bequeth unto my son Nathan Hawkins a tract of two-hundred acres of Sand more or less in South Carolina on the branch of the Tyger River called Long-Rung, to have and to hold by him and his heirs and assignees forever." Nathan remained in SC (as did his uncle Isaac and Isaac’s children Jonathon & Phebe) when most of this Hawkins clan moved to the Miami MM near Waynesville, OH. His father, John Hawkins, died in the “Whitewater Country” of Indiana in 1816, his land & mill being in what is now Richmond, IN. [Source: Carl Henry Hawkins files.]

This property is located on the Tyger River at approximately 34°30'57.03"N 81°31'14.73"W. according to a 100 acre Plat in 1767 to James Hawkins (Nathan’s grandfather). The plat references “Hawkins Shoals” and an 1820 saw & grist mill. There is a second James Hawkins plat of similar acreage, separated by a 1772 100 acre Zachariah Estes plat, to the SSW. These plats were two of James’ 1730+ acres (Nathan’s father John had an 1806, 90 acre plat about 4+ miles NNE). The “Hawkins Shoals” land is on the SSE of Wm Glens land and is shown on page 3 of the Union County Land Grant maps.

This “Shoals” Hawkins plat abutting the Tyger River Glen property to the NW is referenced by Wm. C. Glen, in his will of 28 Mar 1827 [Record Will Book B, p. 124, Box 15, Pkg 23], naming among his bounding neighbors as Henry Hardy (father-in-law of Nathan’s son Jacob), Nathan Hawkins, John & Wm. Sartor, Richard Teagle, Hawkier Selby, estate of Davie Prewit, estate of Elijah Anderson, John Rogers and Darby’s land.

The will of Moses ASHFORD, 9 July 1820, Union Co., SC [Will Book B, p 59, 23 Aug 1820, Box 10, Pkg 26] names Nathan Hawkins & Peter Tucker as executors of his estate. Moses Ashford's plat is less than two miles to the east of Hawkins Shoals & abuts another James Hawkins plat. Moses Ashford: b: 25 Jun 1763, Fairfield County, SC; d: 1820, Union County, SC; he is only noted in 1800 and 1810 censuses, parents were George and Mary; Children: Mary "Polly" b: 1789, Fairfield County, SC - no husband found; Anna b: 1791, Fairfield County, SC - husband James A. Tucker b: 1791; George 1793-9 Apr 1866 in Newberry County, SC.
