Revolutionary War Pension Information

Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 2, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :

Deck, Michael - entered service 1778 in Rockingham County, Virginia, where born [was Augusta County prior to 1778]; resided there after Revolutionary War to 1830 when moved to Madison County, Illinois where granted Pension in 1832 age 73; died 4/3/1843; married 4/25/1790 to Susannah Monger (Marriage Bond 4/19/1790 signed by John Monger), Rockingham County, Virginia; widow was born 4/10/1769 & granted Pension 1843 in Madison County, Illinois; children's births: George 4/12/1789, John Henry (1st o/wedlock) 8/29/1771 [sic , prob. s/b 8/29/1791*], Christeny 8/23/1793, Felix/Phelis 1/14/1796, Elizabeth 4/12/1798, Mary Margaret/Margid 7/12/1800, Anna 10/6/1802, Michael 1/9/1805, Jacob 7/13/1807, Nicholas 5/13/1810 & Joseph 4/16/1812; daughter Elizabeth made affidavit Madison County, Illinois in 1843; query letter in file 1916 from descendant Martin W. Marcoot, Enid, Oklahoma states soldier's son-in-law was Mathias Long, Virginia Revolutionary War soldier. F-W22935, R783.

- * - date listed for son John Henry appears to be incorrectly listed as 8/29/1771 instead of 8/29/1791. Since Michael's wife Susannah Monger was born in 1769, a date of birth for any of their children in 1771 would have been impossible. Also the notation "(1st/o wedlock)" appears to be for their first son George who was born on 12 April 1789, which was a year before Michael and Susannah's marriage date of 25 April 1790, hence born "out of wedlock".
