Facts and Events
Mary Angeline was married four times. She married her first husband twice. Mary Angeline and L. A. Dolman purchased the Graham Hotel and operated it as the Dolman House until he died. Mary operated it alone until 1910 when her son, John Gallaher III became a partner. They continued this partnership until her death. The original Graham Hotel opened for business January 1, 1876. It was located on the northwest corner of the square. It was a two story frame building that was run byKimble and Kramer. On the old register of the Graham Hotel for February 1877 was the name of E. N. Gibbs from Louisville, Kentucky. In March 1878, the Graham Hotel was burned to the ground and the devastating fire swept the west side of the square. The Graham Hotel was rebuilt west of the original site, facing north on fourth Street, where it was reopened September 8, 1881 under the management of W. J. Morton. In 1883, the hotel was sold to a Mr. Stafford. In 1902, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Dolman bought the Graham Hotel and named it the Dolman House. They separated, and his wife, Mary Angeline Dolman, operated it alone until 1910 when her son, John James Gallaher III, became a partner in the business. They continued their partnership until the death of Mary Angeline Dolman in October of 1914, when he became the sole owner of the Dolman House. L. A. and Mary Angeline Dolman had no children. However, at the time of her death, Mary Angeline (Lamar) (Price) (Gallaher) Dolman had 13 grandchildren. A landmark of Graham was the Dolman House located on Fourth Street. Its history is interwoven with that of the town. On January 1, 1876, the Graham Hotel, on the northwest corner of the square where the Corbett building now stands, was opened. Kimble and Kramer ran this establishment. It was a two-story building which burned in 1878, along with the west side of the square. The Graham Hotel was rebuilt west of the original and opened on September 8, 1881, with W. J. Morton as manager. Morton sold the house to F. H. Stafford. In 1902, Mrs. M. A. Dolman bought the hotel. Her son, J. J. Gallaher, became the owner in 1910. Some additional sixteen rooms were added a little later so that the Dolman Hotel could accommodate a sizable group. In 1961 the place was sold and the house removed to make way for the Graham Federal Savings and Loan building. The famous Charter Oak, which Mr. Gallaher had tended during the years, was left standing.
