Facts and Events
Mary Capps' origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 5th July 1748 when she married a farmer called John Wild at Owthorpe in Nottinghamshire. He was a widower, with three young daughters from his first marriage. Mary and John went on to have another seven children baptised at Owthorpe between 1749 and 1762, although the first two died young. John died in 1770. His will made various bequests to his daughters from both his marriages, and split the remainder of his estate between Mary and their only surviving son, Joseph. Two of Mary's children were married in 1774, and her first known grandchildren were born in 1775. She appears to have had at least ten grandchildren born in her lifetime. Her daughter Alice also died in 1781 shortly after giving birth. By the end of her life, Mary was living at Keyworth, where her eldest daughter Jane lived. Mary died in 1783 and was buried back at Owthorpe on 31st January 1783. References
