Both of those facts are incorrect: Marietta is one name & Marvin was born 21 June 1917. In the 1930 U. S. Census, he is incorrectly listed as "Lee M."

The Sherman Porter family bible has an entry for the birth of "Lee Marvin born 21 June 1917 (handwritten by Sherman). He was named after Sherman's brother Lee Middleton Porter. Because they lived near to one-another, & names were confusing, Lee Marvin was called Marvin.

- ↑ Marvin, was part of the crew on the wood-burning sternwheeler "Yukon" and "Princess Louisa" which steamed from Seattle and traveled the full length of the Yukon River - through Alaska and into the Yukon Territory as far as Whitehorse. The steamboat transported freight & passengers to-and-from the towns along the Yukon River. The second year his brother, Percy, went with him. Deckhands during that time were paid $75 per month.
