Loretta became an avid golfer and was the Ladies Club Champion at least eight times over a period of about 20 years.

- ↑ Loretta had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1995. Her thought processes became increasingly impaired, but she never lost her ability to recognize and remember her family and friends. She gradually lost the ability to control her muscles and eventually was unable to walk, stand, or feed herself without assistance. She got to the point where her speech was scarcely a whisper. In the end, she lost her ability to swallow and lived about 10 days after she became unable to eat or drink.
- ↑ Loretta's ashes were buried next to her husband, Marvin L. Porter in the Porter family plot. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. David Laura at the United Methodist Church of Oak Harbor.
