Margaret was born 22 May 1834 according to the family Bible of her father, John W Pollard. She is living in Cherokee, Alabama on the 1850 census. She married John W Brooks on 15 Jul 1858 in Lowndes, Mississippi. Her husband did not return from the civil war, believed to have taken sick and died about Dec 1863, possibly after the Chickamauga Battle. They had one child, Mary Emely Brooks, born 9 Jan 1860.

In the 1870 Tishomingo MS census Margaret Crofs Pollard Brooks is married to Nathaniel Humphreys, with her two children by John Brooks.
