[edit] Biography of John W BrooksJohn was born 29 March 1840 in South Carolina and died prob around Dec 1863 in the Civil War. He married Margaret Crofs Pollard on 15 July 1858 in Lowndes Co, Mississippi. They were living in Pickens County, Alabama where they had one child, Mary Emely Brooks, born 9 Jan 1860. [edit] John's Confederate ServiceJohn joined the Confederate service along with four brothers-in-law, in Company B, 41st Alabama Inf, on March 22 1862. He served in the Battle of Stone's River and the Battle of Chickamauga. CSA Records indicate he became very ill in late December, 1863. Brooks, age 22 Pvt Muster Roll of Nov-Dec "Left on march from Charleston to Knoxville, Tenn." There is no further mention of him in the census, or anywhere else. John W Brooks. Appears on company muster roll for 22 March 1862 to 30 June 1862. Enlisted 22 March 1862 at Fayette County, AL, by Col Tailbird for three years or the war. Present.
