Will of Lawrence Taliaferro of the County of Essex, dated 7 May 1726.
To my daughter Sarah Taliaferro 200 pounds sterling mony of England and one Negro girl Hannah at the day of marriage or when she is eighteen years of age.
To my daughter Elizabeth Taliaferro 200 pounds sterling mony of England and one Negro girl Daphine on the day of marriage or when she is eighteenyears of age.
To my daughter Mary Taliaferro 200 pounds sterling mony of England and one Negro girl Phillis on the day of marriage or when she is eighteen years of age.
To my daughter Alice Taliaferro 200 pounds sterling mony of England and one Negro girl Sue on the day of marriage or when she is eighteen years of age. If any of my afore said daughters die their estate to be equally divided between the surviving sisters.
To my son John 350 acres being the back part of 700 acres at Messaponux which I bought of William Smith. My son John 325 acres lying in King George County and the one half of a tract that Nicolas Christopher lives on at the Mountaines and the half of anouther tract at the Mountains that George Hooten and James Reins live on. Likewise the half of tract of land lying in the Forrest which I purchased of John Sanders and one Crawford.
To my son Frances 350 acres being the river part of 700 acres at Massaponux which I bought of William Smith. Also one half of a tract that Nicolas Christopher lives on at the Mountaines and the half of anouther tract at the Mountains that George Hooten and James Reins live on. Likewise the half of tract of land lying in the Forrest which I purchased of John Sanders and one Crawford.
To my son William the plantation on which I now dwell and also a tract lying at the mountains taken in co-partnership with John Taliaferro where my Quarter is now. Likewise a tract on the Mount Swamp that is between Mount, John Taliaferro and myself. To my son William that tract which Fras. Johnson lives on.
To my three sons John, Francis and William all the rest of my Negroes to be equally devided.
To my daughters Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary & Alice each a feather bed and bouster.
To my three sons John, Francis and William all my houshold goods and stocks equally. If any of my sons should die before they arrive to the age of twenty one years, their estate be equally devided between the survivors.
All the rest of my estate to be equally devided between my three sons John, Frances and William. My loving wife Sarah Taliaferro have maintainance out of my estate during herlife.
My four Daughters have a maintainance out of my estate untill they are married.
My three sons John, Francis and William executors.
My loving brother John Taliaferro, Mr. Francis Thornton junr., Mr. John Catlett and Mr. Anthony Thorton to supervise and settle all differences that shall arise between my wife and children.
