Disposition of Land from Orange County, Virginia Records:
- Pages 421-23. 28 May 1741. John and Francis Taliaferro of St. Mary's Parish, Caroline County, to Nicholas Christopher of St. Thomas' Parish, Orange County. For valuable considerations. Lease for lives of Nicholas Christopher Junr., John Christopher and Wm. Christoper. 150 acres in St. Thomas' Parish... on a hill in a dividing line between Captn. Laurence and Capt. John Taliaferro... on the south east side of Barbour's road... Yearly rent, one ear of Indian corn if demanded. (signed) Jno. Taliaferro, Frans. Taliaferro. Account of John Taliaferro's Will
- Will of John Taliaferro, Spotsylvania County, Gent. Nuncupative Will. Deposition of William Robinson, of spots. Co, Gent, aged 43 years. Deposeth and saith that on Dec. 25, 1750, he was at the house of John Taliaferro(a) , who was very ill of white sickness, and that the same day he died, and that three or four hours before his death he called his brother Francis Taliaferro,(b) of sd. county, Gent., and declared to his said brother to let his sister Brooke(c) have 200 lbs. that Christopher Robinson at Urbanna owed him, and for the said Francis to raise another 100 lbs. and let her have it; then said John told said Francis that all of the rest of his estate he left to him, the sd. Francis, etc. Said Robinson made oath to the above Court held for Spots. Co, Sept. 3, 1751.

- NOTES.
- (a) Son of Lawrence Taliaferro and of his wife Sarah Taliaferro.
- (b) Francis Taliaferro, of "Epsom", who married Elizabeth Hay, daughter of Robert Hay, and his wife, Rachel ____. Robert was the son of John Hay, and of his wife, Mary Wade, daughter of Arminger Wade [William and Mary Quarterly].
- (c) This "sister Brooke" could not possibly have been any other than Mrs. Sarah (Taliaferro) Brooke, widow of William Brooke:1 because at the date of this will (1750) no other Miss Taliaferro had married a Brooke. At the date of this will, Richard Brooke, of "Smithfield", who married two Misses Taliaferro, was only eighteen years old; and besides, his two wives were nieces (neither of them was a sister) of this John Taliaferro.
