Sarah Robe's family history in the Currey-Barker-Baldwin Genealogy states: "I will now speak of Josiah he lived in Guernsey Co. Ohio. He was an excellent good man. Raised a family of good children. His son Robert is a Presbyterian minister in Oregon. Josiah died in the year 1845."

284. MADISON, JAMES. Also signed by JAMES MONROE as Secretary of State. Partly-Printed Document Signed as President, one page, oblong folio, Washington, D.C., December 23, 1811. A land grant issued to Josiah Robe, "...for the North East Quarter of Section 7, Range 3, Township 3 of the unappropriated Lands in the Military District of the Lands directed to be sold at Zanesville by the act of Congress, entitled 'An act providing for the sale of the Lands of the United States in the Territory north-west of Ohio, and above the mouth of Kentucky river'..." The document bears some brown stains at the center fold and perimeter well away from the two strong signatures. The paper wafer seal is entirely present. Overall a fine and impressive document bearing the signatures of two important early presidents. "Be it remembered that at the October term Anno Domini eighteen hundred and forty-five of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the county of Guernsey...John Laughlin one of the subscribing witnesses appeared in open court...Which will is in the words and figures following; to wit--November 20th, 1841. This is my last will and testament, and in the first place I recommend my sole to God who gave it and my body to deasant buriel. And secondly I allow all my just debts to be paid, and thirdly I will and bequeath to my loving wife Jane Robe one thousand dollars part in that Property Bought of Thomas Cochran and the balance to be paid in money the property to be at her disposal at her death. I also bequeath to my loving wife one fourth part of my vandue money live stock and household furniture and fourthly I bequeath to my two daughters Sary and Jane Laughlin Fifty dollars each, and fifthly I bequeath to my son David one hundred dollars to be paid out of the second payment of my land, and Sixthly I bequeath to my son William one Bible, and seventhly I bequeath to my daughter Susanna six hundred dollars and one forth part of my vandue money live stock and household furniture, and Eighthly to my two daughters Rebecca and Mariah three hundred and fifty dollars each, and each of them one forth part of my vandue money live stock and household furniture, and Ninthly I bequeath to my son Robert nine hundred dollars in money and one lot of land containing forty acars, it being the Northwest quarter of the northern quarter of section seven, township No. three of range No. 3 military in Zanesville land district, and Tenthly I appoint Alexander Laughlin and William Robe my executors in this my last will and Disanulling all former wills. Given under my hand and seal the day and year above written. Josiah (his X mark) Robe. In preasants of us John Laughlin David (his X mark) McConkey.
