Overview

John Walker of Derry, Ireland was born c1697. He emigrated to America about 1720 and settled near Appoqinimink Creek, Delaware near the town of Appoquinimaink, later (c1750) called Cantwell's Bridge, and later still (1855) Odessa. John died in 1742, presumably in Appaquinimaink. He is supposed to have been buried in the Back Creek Church Cemetery, on the Bohemia River. This, coupled with the information that at least one of his children (Col John Walker) is said to have been born on Bohemia Creek, may indicate that John did not really live in the town of Appoquinimaink, or did not live there for long. Documentation for any/all events in his life is needed so that we can distinguish between what's being said, and what's actually true about his life.

  1. Commonly said to have died on "Back Creek", and to be buried in the cemetery of the "Back Creek Church". However, he is also supposed to have lived at what is now Odessa on Appoquinimink Creek, and that is presumably where he died.
