My line goes as follows:

John Sterling b. abt 1780 VA?; d Mar 1815 Jefferson Co., TN md. Catherine Taylor

Children-- 1. Henry d 1806 Knox Co., Tenn. md. Eleanor Stirling** 2. William 3. Robert b 1759 Pineford, VA or Penn./d. 1844 Blount Co., TN md. Margaret Gillespie 4. John 5. Jane "Polly" md. Thomas W. Frazier 22 oct 1799 in ? 6. Catherine md. Andrew Kerr on 18 june 1794 in ? 7. Margaret md. William Samples on 16 May 1794 in ? 8. Mary md. John Green on 24 oct 1799 in ? 9. James Lawson d. 1809-1814 possibly Grianger Co., TN

Both William and Robert supposedly served in the Augusta Co., VA military.

Child #1 Henry that married Eleanor Stirling--they possibly were cousins of some sort. Eleanor's father was supposedly...

John Stirling d. Apr 1797 Knox Co., TN md. Hannah who d. 1814/1815 Knox Co., TN Their Children-- 1. Margaret/Peggy md. 17 Jun 1800/1801 Knox Co., TN to Joseph McAlister 2. Samuel b. 1770-1780 d. 1836 Knox Co., TN who md. Polly Murphy 15 Jan 1807 Knox Co., TN 3. Eleanor Neley md. Henry Sterling 1st, then Thomas Scott on 15 Feb 1819 Knox Co., TN 4. James d. 1799. (probably didn't marry since he willed all to his sister Margaret and his brother Samuel.

Margaret/Peggy's husband, JosephMc Alister, and brother Samuel were both witnesses to Henry Sterling's will (husband of sister Eleanor). There supposedly was a big court battle involving Henry Sterling (husband of Eleanor) and the estate of Eleanor's father John Stirling.

1. Mary Bower and her second husband Robert Taylor, Pine Ford, Susquehanna River, PA (She m1 Hans Paulus Zantzaner, m2 Robert Taylor, m3 Charles McCormick) 2. Catherine Taylor, dau of Mary Bower and Robert Taylor, married John Sterling/Stirling. They married ca 1750-53 Pine Ford, Susquehanna, PA. They then moved to Spartanburg SC and again moved to Botetourt Co.VA and then to Jefferson Co. TN.

John Sterling died Jefferson Co. TN Mar 1815. 3. Henry Sterling who died before his father. Henry married Elinor "Neley" (Nelly) Sterling, believed to be his cousin.

They were married Botetourt County VA

Sterling, Henry and Elenor Sterling, 25 Jan 1790; b. Samuel Sterling (Believe her brother). Benjamin Rowe (deputy clerk, lawyer), con_John Stirling (This is actually consent for Henry. John Sterling/Stirling's will (d 1815 Jefferson County TN) lists the heirs of my son Henry.) Apparently Elenor was of age or John had been caring for her in his family (she being a close relative) and thus he had the authority to give consent for both of them! Samuel Sterling is listed as brother, but it doesn't say of which one. wit-Hen (Henry?) Bowyer adn A4chibald Murray, minister was Edward Crawford (Presby) They were married 4 Feb 1790.

This marriage record has been badly butchered as it ws put into different books. It is given correctly in Botetourt Court Marriages (Volumes 1 and 2) compliled by John Vogt and T. William Kethley, Jr.; Iberian Publishing Company, Athens, Georgia. 4. Katherine (Catherine) (Katy) middle name probably Taylor (She is the only one of the children for whom I don't have the middle name, but I believe she was named for her father's mother. "Kitty" (given as "Hetty" and as "Kitty" elsewhere in the transcription of Knox County Marriages!) married Robert Stevenson in Knox Co. TN 1806 or 1808 (must be hard to read the year). He and she moved to Fines Creek, Haywood Co., NC. I believe Robert Stevenson was also out of Jefferson Co. TN before marrying her in Knox. 5. Nancy Stevenson/Stephenson who married Lewis Noland. Nancy died Fines Creek, Haywood Co. NC but Lewis died in Sevier Co.TN, buried James Cemetery, no stone. 6. Peter Lafayette Noland m 1870 Haywood Co. NC to Margaret Ferguson. 7. Jefferson Reed Noland called Reed. Born 1 1Dec 1875 or 1874, Fines Creek, Haywood Co. NC and died April 12, 1952, Sevier Co. TN, Wife was Delia Frederick Hickam (not Hickman). 8. Wiley C. Noland born 6 April 1902 Sevier Co.TN m 11 June 1981 to Letty Edith Myers, called Edith. 9. Virgil Andy Noland born 1 Sept 1929 Sevier Co.TN, (now deceased) and Lucillle Roberts (Roberts her adopted surname) (birth name Laura Alice Walker from Luther, Hancock Co.TN) 10. Doris Maxine Noland born 1949 Sevierville TN married Bobby Lee Parton (name not Robert) 21 Dec 1967 Sevier Co.TN divorced Dec. 1982 Knox Co. TN 11. my two children Clint Parton and Danielle Parton 12. Clint's three children
