Information on John McKee

John McKee, was apparently a modest and private farmer, who married (also late) Esther Houston, the aunt of the famous Sam Houston, Commanding General of the Texas Revolutionary army, and the Lone Star Republic’s first president. When John McKee died, his daughter Agnes became the ward of his brother, William McKee. (Source: The Surname Gay website of John B. Robb, http://johnbrobb.com/JBR-GAY-sur.htm#John2Gay)

Note: Esther Houston listed above could not have been the aunt of Gen. Samuel Houston, as mentioned above. That Esther Houston could not have been born earlier than 1742, when her parents (Robert Houston and Mary Davidson) were married, and the Esther Houston that married John McKee was born abt. 1730, married by abt. 1748.
