- Page 75.--20th March, 1759. Wm. McClung to Jno. McClung, £10, 26 acres; corner Stephenson's land. Teste: James Wellch, Andrew Crop.

- Vol. 2 - Page 113--John McClung, Sr., aged 73, deposes, same time and place (deposes at Brownsburg, July, 1805).
- Vol. 2 - Page ___--John McClung, Senior, aged 73, deposes, 15th July, 1805.
- Vol. 2 - Page ___--John McClung, Senior, deposes, 14th December, 1807, has known the land 63 years. Downey lived on it. Believes Downey was a hunter, from seeing bear skins hang about the house. Deponent lived in Borden's grant 63 years; he is now 77 years old.
Will Transcript
- I John McClung, Sr. of Rockbridge county and State of Virga. being of sound mind and memory, and in perfect health but calling to mind my mortality do ordain & establish this my last Will & Testament, being written this twenty ninth day of Novr. 1802.
- First I direct all my Just debts and funeral expenses to be paid by my Executors.
- Secondly, I give & devise to my son Joseph McClung & his heirs the plantation on which I now live, together with all my negroes & personal property agreeable to an article of agreement dated this day between him & myself in which he is bound, to pay to Robt. Tate & wife one hundred pounds.
- To Robt. Stuart & wife one hundred pounds.
- To Sam. Moore & wife forty pounds & to each of my daughter Rebecca Steele's children a good bed & furniture which by the article my son Joseph is to pay to them & my estate is given as aforesaid in trust that he will perform the article aforesaid.
- As to my land in Kentucky I give & devise to my son John McClung a small tract of land in Montgomery County containing abt. two hundred seventy odd acres subject to the claim of the Locator.~
- As to all the rest & residue of my land in Kentucky located in my name and part of it is in the name of my son William I devise as follows: I give & devise the one half of the same to my son William McClung & his heirs & the other half I devise to my three Sons John, Archibald & Joseph & their heirs, as tenants in common.
- I appoint my Sons John McClung & Joseph McClung my Executors & do hereby revoke all other wills by me made & declare this my last will & Testamt.
- Witness my hand & seal the day & year aforesaid.

8-3 John McClung, b. in Ireland, 1731; d. near Fairfield, Va., 1817. He was an Elder in the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church. He was a remarkably stout and fine-looking man; very straight, six feet high and very portly, weighing 180 to 200 pounds. He was a successful farmer, possessing a considerable estate in land and slaves. He had a good English education and took a prominent part in the erection of schools and churches, m. 1754, Elizabeth Alexander, b. in Ireland, Oct. 28, 1735; d. prior to Nov. 29, 1802, dau. of Archibald Alexander and his wife, Margaret Parks, and aunt of Dr. Archibald Alexander, of Princeton. Twelve children.

The children of John McClung and Elizabeth Alexander were: 1. Margaret McClung, described as a great beauty, married Robert Tate of Augusta County, VA. 2. Judge William McClung, studied law under Thomas Jefferson, later went to Maysville, KY, married Susan Tarleton Marshall of Oak Hill, Fauquier County, VA, daughter of Colonel Thomas Marshall, who was a brother of Chief Justice John Marshall.Colonel Thomas Marshall was married to Mary Randolph Keith who was a daughter of Mary Isham Randolph of Tuckahoe and a cousin to Thomas Jefferson, his mother having been a Randolph.(The McClungs are my mother's people; my father's families include the Taliaferros who also, bearing various names, weave among these Randolph connections; TJ's daughter Martha Jefferson married Thomas Mann Randolph and their daughter Anne Cary Randolph married our cousin Charles Lewis Bankhead, whose mother was Mary Warner (Lewis) Lightfoot, a daughter of our cousin Lucy Taliaferro and her husband, who was Charles Lewis of Warner Hall, Gloucester County.The Alexanders, too, so conspicuous in the early history of Presbyterianism and education in America, are connected with several others of my lines.)A son of Judge William McClung was Alexander Keith McClung, the duelist. There were other children, all given in the book. 3. Rebecca McClung, married William Steele. 4. John McClung, married Mary Stuart. 5. Archibald McClung, "owned one of the finest farms in Botetourt County," which he left to his nephew Joseph Alexander McClung. 6. Phoebe McClung who married James Paxton. 7. Elizabeth McClung, married Robert Stuart. (I understand these Stuart marriages involved the noted Stuart family of Virginia, who also have Randolph and Taliaferro ties.) 8. Dr. James McClung, moved to Kentucky and died unmarried. 9. Joseph McClung, lived at what was known as the old "McClung Mansion" near Fairfield, VA, inherited from his uncle Archibald McClung; married Elizabeth Wilson. 10. Isabella McClung, unmd. 11. Lt. John McClung BIRTH 1731 Ireland DEATH 1817 (aged 85–86) Rockbridge County, Virginia, USA
John McClung was eleven years old when he immigrated from Ireland to America with his parents in 1742.
John McClung was about twenty-two and Elizabeth Parks Alexander was about nineteen when they married in 1754 in Augusta County, Virginia.
The S.A.R., Sons of the American Revolution record revealed John McClung was born in 1731 in Ireland. He was a Lieutenant in the Army and was an Indian Spy. John married Elizabeth Alexander and he died in 1817 in Fairfield, Rockbridge County, Virginia.
The record of the Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War of November 7, 1780 revealed Lt. John McClung served under S. Wallace.
