John B. Laughlin was a young boy when the Civil War started and we (Laughlins) think his father volunteered for service - probably for the South as he is not on the tax rolls 1863 thru 1866. Being the oldest boy John had to be in charge of their farm and 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

About 1877 at age 22 John migrated to Jackson Co., MO, with other members of the family. He was married in March of 1879 to Annie Morton, daughter of Warren C. Morton and Rachel Gray.
