Annie Morton was born in Cass County Missouri 1861 at the time during the Civil War that was so turbulant along the state line between Missouri and Kansas. Conflict between the Secessionists (Southern Sympathizers) and the Unionists.
Annie's father had come from Kentucky in the late 1850s and we (Laughlins) believe they went to Kentucky so that he could serve with the Confederates, but have found no military records. Two children were born in Kentucky according to 1870 census.
