John and Annie are found on the 1880 census in Washington Township near New Santa Fe. The first overnite stop on the Santa Fe and Oregon Trails, migration route to the west. The parents of both John and Annie as well as most of their brothers and sisters were all living nearby.

About 1890 the family moved to Johnson Co., KS, just a few miles across the state line. John was a farmer with about 150 acres. As most families in those times, they were self sustaining, the children going to school and growing to adulthood, marrying and starting their own families.

John died in 1919 during the Influenza Epidemic with Pulmonary complication. Annie was left with two sons unmarried, one in the Navy of WW1. She sold the farm and moved into the town of Stanley, supporting herself as long as her health permitted. She died in 1951 at age of 90 of Arteriosclerosis & complications of old age.
