Laughlin John B. Laughlin was born in Bourbin county, Kentucky, March 26, 1855, and died at his home in Aubry township, November 16, 1919. He left Kentucky in April, 1877, coming to Warrensburg, Mo., where he lived one year, after which he located in Jackson county, near Santa Fe. He was married to Annie Morton, March 23, 1879. To this union was born eleven children, six boys and five girls; one boy and one girl dying in infancy. Soon after the marriage Mr. Laughlin and his wife united with the Christian church, both being baptized the same day. To the day of his death he was a firm believer in his Bible, and took great comfort in its promises during his long illness. In 1892, Mr. Laughlin moved his family to a farm four miles south of Stanley, where they have resided since. He is survived by his wife, nine children, Mrs. Clare Toynbee, and Richard F. of Morse, Kan., Mrs. Dora F. Murry, Rosedale, Kan., Jesse W. of Stanley, Grover C. of Stilwell, Kan, Mrs. Lula Thurston, of Olathe, Kan., Mrs. Alta M. Thurston, of Rosedale, Kan., Elmer R and John Ellis of the home; also nineteen grand children; three sisters, Mrs. Mattie Manis, of Texas; Mrs. Nannie Lawson, of Olathe, and Mrs. Eliza Heinis, of Franklin county, Kan., and four brothers, Robert, Eli, Elliott, and Sterling, all lliving in or near Lenexa, Kan. Mr. Laughlin was a man of integrity, industry, a good neighbor, a kind husband and father. He displayed the greatest patience during his long illness and met death with unfailing courage. Funeral services were conducted from the Christian church at Stanley, Tuesday at 1 p.m., by Rev. Scrivner. Burial in Pleasant View cemetery. |
