John Harrison was one of the Early Settlers of Augusta County, Virginia __________________________ [edit] Excerpt from SETTLERS BY THE LONG GREY TRAILpage 164 SETTLERS BY THE LONG GREY TRAIL: "John Harrison Jr. never married. He is said to have settled at Flook's Spring in the neighborhood to the south of his father. Some of his land on Smiths Creek adjoined the latter, some adjoined Valentine Sevier, and some joined Benjamin Borden Jr. In the Land Entry Book No. 1, of Augusta County entries were made May 20, 1748, to Valentine Sevier, for 400 acres on Smiths Creek, and to John Harrison, Jr., for 400 acres adjoining this, and for 400 acres joining Borden. On May 20, 1749, two entries were made to John (Jr.) ; "400 (acres) on Smith's Creek, between his land and John Davis, and 200 acres, between his own and his father's land, on Smith Creek" (Chalkley, Vol. I I , pp. 379, 383.)"

Harrison, tract on Smith's Creek, 400 acres; to Phel Harrison, eldest daughter of Zebulon; to sister Phebe Moore, and her daughter; Ann Davison, and to her daughters; Phebe Davison; to brother, Reuben. Executors, brothers Zebulon and Reuben. Teste: Jonathan Douglass, Jno. Hopkins, James Breame (?). Proved, 15th November, 1763, by Jno. Hopkins, and 16th November, 1763, by Jonathan Douglass. Executors qualified (Zebulon's mark ), with Danl. Love, Robt. Cravens. |
