Facts and Events
John Gamble was one of the Early Settlers of Augusta County, Virginia __________________________ [edit] Land Records
[edit] NotesFamily tradition claims that John Gamble came from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and migrated to Augusta County, Virginia in the early to mid 1750's, but there are no land or court records to prove his existence there. His son Josiah Gamble is mentioned as providing a deposition in two court records ["Christopher Acklin vs. Francis Walker", 1802 and "John Vance vs. Francis Walker", 1803], listed in Chalkely's Vol. 2, surrounding a dispute regarding land on "Wolf Hill Tract", which was in nearby Washington County, Virginia, which became the town of Abingdon. It is believed by this researcher that John Gamble's family likely was located in Washington County, Virginia and not Augusta County, which appears to be likely supported by these records. Additional research is needed. References
