Overview
From: River Raisin Battlefield (fair use, but this needs to be expanded and written to make it independent)
- Captain John Montgomery Edmiston (Edmondson, Edmonson) was born in Virginia in 1764. He fought alongside his father Col. William Edmiston at the Battle of King’s Mountain during the Revolutionary War.[8] After marrying his cousin and serving as a Clerk of the Court at Abingdon, Virginia, he relocated to Fayette County, Kentucky, where he became a prosperous landowner.
- In 1812, he organized a company for Allen’s 1st Rifle Regiment and was elected its captain, but resigned in favor of his lieutenant, Richard Bledsoe. Continuing as a private in the company he formerly commanded, he was killed at the Battle of the River Raisin on January 22, 1813. A county in Kentucky was named after him in 1825.

- As for John who m. Mary Buchanan, as I said earlier, there were two of them. John Edmiston, s/o John II, married one, apparently the daughter of Samuel Buchanan II. John Edmondson, s/o William Edmiston Sr., married Mary Buchanan, d/o Andrew & Joanna Hay. The former went to Davidson Co. TN, the latter stayed in WCV. It took me several years to get that one figured out.

LEVI PREWITT, farmer, P. O. Pine Grove, is of old English stock.
His paternal grandfather, Robert, came from Virginia to Fayette County, Ky., about 1794, in which year Gen. Anthony Wayne's decisive victory over the Indians at the Miami Rapids put a complete stop to the savage forays by which the Kentucky settlers had up to this time been harassed.
That bold expedition, with the brilliant action which was its result, was shared in by many a gallant fellow from Fayette County.
In 1810, Robert Prewitt bought the farm which has since been owned in the name of Prewitt, and which he improved and worked till his death in 1819.
The property then fell to his son, William C., who retained it and further enhanced its value while he lived, and when he died, in 1854, it descended to his son Levi, our subject, whose mother was Margaret Edmonson.
Her father, Capt. John Edmonson, was one of the many brave Kentuckians killed on the terrible 22d of January, 1813, when Gen. Winchester's command was surprised and defeated at Frenchtown (now Monroe) on the River
Raisin, Mich., and the prisoners taken were afterward barbarously butchered by the Indian allies of the victorious British.
Col. Edmonson, who fell in the thickest of the fight, was born in Washington County, Va., but had lived many years in Fayette County, and in honor to his memory another county of Kentucky was given his name.
His grandson, Levi Prewitt, was born November 5, 1819, in Fayette County of which he has since been a constant resident, engaged in agricultural pursuits.
He fattens thirty or forty beeves yearly.
On October 23, 1845, he married Mary E., daughter of Samuel Coleman, and of the children born to them six are living: Margaret (wife of Prof. William O. Sweeney, M. D.), Ellen, Lucy, Lanie, Annie and Samuel S.
Mr. Prewitt is a member of the Christian Church and a valuable citizen.
