Per Howard Jones fide Don Bradley

William Edmiston, b. 1781. was a son of Col. William Edmiston. His first wife is unknown; his second was Elizabeth Ann Boteler.

Betsy Stuart was the wife of William's brother, General William Campbell Edmiston -- which is his name, not a title.Campbell, as he was called, was born in 1785. Needless to say, there has been much confusion between these two, especially because people did not realize that General was a name, not a title -- he was named after Col. William's commander at King's Mountain.G.W.C. had two other wives, but without issue. Q 07:39, 17 June 2009 (EDT)

  1. DOM of 1761 may be correct, but by this time the family was on Borden's Grant in modern Rockbridge County, so POM would seem to be incorrect
