_DCAUSE: Blood Poisoning, organic heart disease, and chronic interstitial nephritis _PHOTO: John Allen Conley worked as an engineer on the 'narrow gauge' railroad prior to being employed on the W. Va. Northern. He and his family were living with JoAnna's parents in 1880. (US Census). At the time of the 1910 US Census, he was working as a laborer in the coal mines. Later, he was accidentally struck by a train and was disabled thereafter. He moved to Murdock Street, Kingwood, where he lived until his death, caused by 'blood poisoning,' after running a splinter into his arm. He is buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood. The undertaker was B. Spindler. He was remembered as an excellent hunter and tracker, and often played a fiddle. He was also known as a man of exceptional physical strength. According to Audrey Fraley, John Allen had seizures following his head injury. John and his wife, Joanna, became members of the Kingwood Methodist Episcopal Church on 2/7/1892. They were later baptized on 7/17/1892. (PC Methodist Church records). |
