Edward's nickname was "Bunk." He was named after Edward C. Bunker, a lawyer from Monongalia County, W.Va., who was a Republican member of the West Virginia state senate, 3rd District, 1863-64 and a Presidential Elector for West Virginia, 1864. Bunk took care of his mother until her death, since his father, Major William, died when Bunk was a young man. At that time he worked constructing a railroad near his home. After his mother died, he married Dicey Pratt when he was 48 years old. He was a well-known farmer in the Gladesville area and was said to have the best livestock in this area of the state.

He ran for House of Delegates on the Prohibition ticket in 1912. (PC Journal, 10/31/1912.) He was a lifelong member of the Gordon Methodist Episcopal Church. His home was located at Plain View, about 3 miles from Gladesville, WV.

He was noted to have died of "Stomach Ulcers" and is buried next to his mother and wife in the Gordon Cemetery, near Gladesville, WV. (PC Death Records) According to his obituary from the Preston County Journal, he was ill from peritonitis for about 10 days prior to his death.
