About John Brooks

John Brooks, father of Moses and Joseph Brooks (and probably William Brooks) likely came from Pennsylvania (as did many other esrly Augusta settlers) and arrived in the area of Augusta County, Virginia shortly before he and his son Moses were listed in the "tithables list" in 1781 (shown below). There does not appear to be any other records in Augusta County that apply to John, making it likely that he spent only a few years in Augusta County. Both of his sons married daughters of Robert Gamble, who also migrated through Augusta County to Tennessee. John Brooks migrated to Tennessee prior to his death in Knox County in abt. 1794/95.
