A couple of sources give Joel's death as April 1, 1871, however one says at age 80 and the other at 39y 8m 8d. Given the illegibility of the stone the former is understandable. The latter, when calculated back, indicates a birth of 24 July 1831 which differs from the recorded date whereas the calculated difference between April 1, 1871 and July 23, 1834 is 36y 8m 9d therfore, unless proven otherwise, the dates will be left unchanged. His children's births all occur within his life except that of Joel Nelson (29 March 1872) which is 11 months and 28 days after Joel's death. Obviously further investigation of dates is needed.
