Death of J. D. Ball at Pt. Arena Sunday Belonged to Pioneer Family

J. D. Ball, a prominent citizen of Point Arena, and a brother of E. B. Ball, of this place, passed away at his home last Sunday as the result of an attack of paralysis. The funeral was held at Point Arena Tuesday under the auspices of the Odd Fellows lodge of that place.

Mr. Ball was one of the best known and best liked men on the south coast. He was elected constable at the last election and had filled the office with credit since.

He was born in Anderson valley March 4, 1863, being a member of one of the old pioneer families of that section. He was married to Miss Lola Ledford, a daughter of the late S. M. Ledford, of Littleriver [sic], and five children were born to the union. They with the widow survive to mourn his loss. They are Mrs. Marion Philbert, Misses Hazel and Clyde and Messrs. Raymond and Clair. Two brothers and two sisters also are left, they being E. B. Ball, of Ukiah, D. L. Ball, of Albion, Mrs. G. M. Miller, of Boonville, and Mrs. J. B. Hunt, of Bakersfield. All but Mrs. Hunt attended the funeral.

The Dispatch extends its sincere sympathy to the bereaved ones and a multitude of friends join in extending their condolences.
