Charles S. Ball of Anderson Valley died January 15, 1896
Obituary also in the Dispatch Democrat 17 January 1896.
Obituary Chardon S. Ball, of Anderson Valley, passed away at his home Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 5:20 p.m. The cause of his death was a spinal disease from which paralysis of the lower limbs resulted. He was hopeful and cheerful to the last. The best medical skill was consulted and nothing was left undone in the treatment of the case. Court Laurel, No. 8224, A.O.F., of Boonville, of which he was a member, had hoped for the best and had shown marked attention to him throughout as evinced by their unremitting calls and visits to the sick room, official and otherwise. The deceased was born May 29, 1865, on the same homestead and premises which his father, Jefferson David [sic] Ball, one of the pioneer settlers of Anderson Valley, located in 1852. After arriving at man's estate he employed most of his time in the work and management of the old homestead farm excepting a few years during which he assisted the management in conducting the J.B. Hunt store in Boonville. To Mr. and Mrs. Ball, parents of the deceased, grew up a large family of children, six girls and four boys, all of whom had been provided with a liberal education and possessed the regard and esteem of their associates. The deceased leaves a wife and one child who have the sympathy of the community in their affliction and bereavement.
Mendocino Beacon, 25 Jan 1896
