Mark and Melissa Ball Carpenter were very close to their Aunt Grace and Uncle John Hudson. When Grace died in 1937 she left her home, The Sun House, all of her remaining paintings, Indian artifacts and furnishings to Mark and Melissa. They continued to live in the house until Melissa's death in 1975. Melissa left all of Grace Hudson's belongings, including The Sun House to the city of Ukiah as a memorial to Grace. Melissa's name is still well known and revered at The Grace Hudson Museum.
