General Notes:

This James, son of John and Elizabeth, is the James who married Mary McCombe. This is proven by the will of Jame's brother, John Jr. of Middle River who names all of the children of John and Elizabeth as his siblings and also bequeths items to his nephew Andrew McComb, son of his sister Rebeckah.

James was a farmer and miller by trade. He served as Constable in the militia in 1767.

A transcription of his will is provided by Sharon Jebavy as follows:

James Young, Augusta Co., VA, Bk. 9, pg. 418, Nov. 18, 1804, proved Dec. 24, 1804 Son Wm. land on Naked Creek Son Robert (had a son John) Son James Son Thomas Dau. Peggy Dau. Margaret Dau. Jean Allison Dau. Elenbeth (Elizabeth?) Garvin Dau. Mary Brown. Dau. Agnes Graham Son Andrew Grandson John, son to son Robert

It should be noted that there was more than one James Young in Augusta Co., VA at the time. In the Merchant records one is listed of the Forks (1768), one of Botetourt (1771). Some of the following records from Chalkley as forwarded by Sharon Jebavey might apply to one of the others instead of this James. Starred entries are ones I believe belong to this James.

1759 page 35, James Young, son of John is listed in the merchant's records.

May 24, 1762 .(253) Liquors rated. James Young, a juror impanneled, failed to answer when called; fined and suit continued. Alexr. McClenachan, Thos. Crow, Joseph Bell, George Francisco, disturbed the Court by playing at ball, and are fined.

Joseph Lang, father of Henry, many years ago purchased a tract of land from George Robinson, who was to take out patent in Joseph's name, but it was actually issued in name of Samuel Lang, deceased, brother of Henry, for half the tract. Samuel was of very poor intellect and quite an idiot. Joseph died and left will dated 11th September, 1757, wherein he gave a part of his land "The Welch Cabin" unto Samuel. James Young persuaded Samuel to convey his land to him, in consideration that James paid him in victuals, &c. Bill to set aside conveyance.
